Patrick O’Connor is currently the editorial cartoonist for the Los Angeles Daily News drawing five cartoons weekly.  He is a graduate of Kent State University with degrees in journalism and studio art. He drew editorial cartoons and illustrations for his college newspaper, The Daily Kent Stater, for approximately six years beginning as a high school student. He has also been syndicated through Tribune Media Services and done artwork for a number of newspapers and magazines.

Patrick is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence in editorial cartooning. He received the 1998 John Locher Award for Outstanding Editorial Cartooning from the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. He was also awarded the 1999 Mark of Excellence Award for Editorial Cartooning from the Society of Professional Journalists. Patrick was recognized in 1998 and 1999 for excellence in editorial cartooning by the Ohio Association of Journalists.

In addition, he was the second place finalist twice in the Charles Schulz Art competition. He was  also nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Editorial Cartooning in 2001 and 2002. And, he is the recipient of the Los Angeles Press Club Award for Editorial Cartooning for 2002. His original artwork can be viewed on the web site for Impolitic.com.

Patrick likes to share his experiences as a cartoonist with interested individuals and groups. He’s spoken at numerous state high school journalism conferences, at Berry College, UCLA, the San Fernando Cartoonists Group, Kent State University and other venues. He’s a member of the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists and the Society of Professional Journalists. He presents his unique perspective of daily events through words and images. He’s available to share his experiences upon request. Patrick lives in West Los Angeles where he likes to work in his art studio, listen to music and play the guitar.
